NYC Part 3

I'm nearly done with the NYC pictures, I swear. After this, there will only be one more post because even though we did spend more time in Manhattan on Saturday, we did more walking around than picture taking. The following are still pictures from our first day there. As I mentioned, after we left the Empire State Building we made our way over to Times Square.

I noticed as soon as we got up to street level from Penn Station that NYC is one giant billboard. Everywhere you look there's a huge advertisement for something, but no where is that more apparent than in Times Square. Even seeing it on tv didn't prepare us for the level of advertising that goes on in this area.

After walking several miles, we decided to stop at McDonald's to rest our feet. Sneetches like coke.

He couldn't resist this photo-op with Jeffrey the Giraffe at the giant Toys R Us. There's actually a ferris wheel inside their store. I'm jealous, we don't have anything like that here, though we do have our giant ferris wheel at Navy Pier.

We stopped at a few other stores while touring Times Square, including the Virgin Megastore and Swatch. I know a lot of people think Swatches went out with the 80's, and they probably did, but I still like to collect them. I purchased one that came with a voodoo doll.

Along the way, the kiddie took pictures of all the billboards for the musicals currently playing on Broadway. This is the only one I really wanted to see, but since we were unsure what our schedule would be like for the two days we got to spend in NYC, we weren't able to go see it. The kiddie's class trip for choir next year will probably be to NYC and I've already been told that her teacher is insisting that I come with, so hopefully we'll get to see it then. For those that don't recognize the mask, it's Phantom of the Opera.

Next stop was the M&M store. I had no idea they came in so many colors...

The Sneetch just had to get his picture taken with the M&M dude cuz they're both yellow. As we're standing in line, watching families in front of us get pictures taken in the same spot, we noticed the billboard over his left shoulder. Yes, that is an advertisement for a lesbian porn film staring Jenna Jameson. We deliberately made sure it was in our photo, but I wonder how many unsuspecting people ended up with it in the background of theirs.

Outside the M&M store, we ran into Spidey. He got as big a kick out of our Sneetch as we did of him in his tight costume. I cropped his bulge out of this picture because quite frankly, it scared me!

We then made our way back into the center of Times Square so the Sneetch could get his picture taken there with all the lights.

And so we could get a picture of all the traffic. It was bumper to bumper taxis. I don't know why someone would even try to jump in a cab. You could get places faster by walking, even though the sidewalks were about as jammed with people as the streets were with cars.

As if we hadn't already done enough walking, we asked a cop where Radio City Music Hall was. Didn't sound like it was too far, so we headed over there. Along the way we passed these windows. The balloon poodles and bear were too cute not to photograph them.

It was too late for the backstage tour of Radio City Music Hall so we just took a pic of the place instead.

We then rounded the corner and ended up at the Rockefeller Center. They had some stupid golf thing set up in the plaza so we didn't bother taking pics there, just of the sign to prove we'd been there.

Our final photo of the night before we hiked our asses back to Penn Station was looking up at the NBC tower.

We must have walked at least 20 miles that first day. While we were lucky enough to arrive back at Penn Station just as a NJ bound train was about to leave, we didn't make it back to our hotel in time to get in the hot tub and relax our weary muscles and sore feet. Didn't think we'd be able to do any more walking for our entire trip after that, but we did even more walking the next day.

I love sneetch cold kickin' it with Jeffrey. That Sneetch makes friends with everyone yo!! Big pimpin' in NYC.

As for Times Square?? I'd probably go insane with all the stimuli and drop onto the ground in seizures.

Personally, I couldn't do NYC but then again I live in a small city compared to Chicago or NYC.
